What does it mean to be human?

The answer to this question seems relatively simple. But in This Mortal Flesh: Incarnation and Bioethics, theologian and ethicist Brent Waters exposes the new and alarming trend of transhumanism — the notion that humans can become something more through scientific and technological advancements.

In the book, Waters considers issues such as biotechnology and physical/cognitive enhancement, reproductive technology, human genetics, embryonic stem cell research and regenerative medicine. Plus, he grounds his thinking in biblical theology.

Dr. Waters will speak on this topic and more at Southeastern Seminary on Oct. 23 at 7pm. In anticipation of his lecture, we’re giving away his book. Hurry! The contest ends at 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday, Oct. 19.
